How to Store Your Ozempic Injection Correctly at Home
Ozempic injection in Jeddah is a prescription medication used to help manage type 2 diabetes and may support weight management in appropriate patients under medical supervision.
1. Unused Pens (Before First Use)
-
Refrigeration Required: All unopened, brand-new Ozempic pens must be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F).
-
Expiration Date: When kept continuously in the refrigerator, an unopened pen can be stored safely until the printed expiration (EXP) date on the carton and pen label.
-
Placement Caution: Do not place the pen directly against the cooling element or the back wall of the refrigerator, where it risks freezing. Never use Ozempic if it has been frozen.
2. In-Use Pens (After First Use)
-
Room Temperature: You can store the in-use pen at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F).
-
Back in the Refrigerator: Alternatively, you can continue keeping the opened pen in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C).
-
The 56-Day Rule: Regardless of whether you store your active pen at room temperature or in the fridge, it must be discarded after 56 days (8 weeks), even if there is medication left inside. Marking the discard date on your calendar when you first open the pen helps you track this safely.
3. Essential Handling and Protection Rules
-
Always Remove the Needle: Never store your Ozempic pen with a needle attached. Leaving a needle on can allow air to enter the pen or medication to leak out, and it increases the risk of contamination. Always twist on a fresh, sterile needle immediately before your weekly injection and discard it safely right after.
-
Keep the Cap On: Always keep the pen cap securely attached when the pen is not in use to protect the medicine from light.
-
Protect from Heat and Light: Store your pen away from direct sunlight, windowsills, or hot areas of the kitchen (such as near the stove).
