BYD Car Prices in India: Four Rungs on a Very Tall Ladder
From Rs. 24.99 lakh to Rs. 48 lakh, each BYD makes a different argument for your money.
Ask a friend what BYD cars cost in India and you will probably get one number. The trouble is that there is no single number. There are four, and they are far apart.
That is what makes the latest BYD car prices so interesting to study. This is not a brand that sells one car in different trims. It sells four distinct ideas, stacked on a ladder, and where you step onto it changes the whole conversation.
The Four Models at a Glance
All prices below are ex showroom, with claimed range figures.
- BYD Atto 3: from Rs. 24.99 lakh, 60.5 kWh battery, 521 km range
- BYD eMAX 7: from Rs. 26.90 lakh, 71.8 kWh battery, 530 km range
- BYD Seal: from Rs. 41 lakh, 82.5 kWh battery, 650 km range
- BYD Sealion 7: from Rs. 48 lakh, 91.3 kWh battery, 567 km range
Rung One: The Atto 3
The Atto 3 is where most Indian buyers meet BYD. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, which is quick without being silly.
This rung asks the toughest question, because the competition is closest. The Hyundai Creta Electric starts at Rs. 17.99 lakh, so the Atto 3 has to earn its premium through battery technology and build quality. That is exactly the argument BYD makes.
Rung Two: The eMAX 7
Only about Rs. 2 lakh above the Atto 3 sits the eMAX 7, and it changes the argument completely. This is a seven seater MPV, and it takes 9 seconds to reach 100 km/h.
It is not trying to win on speed. It is trying to win families. For a household that needs three rows and does not want a diesel, there are very few electric answers, and this is one of them.
Rung Three: The Seal
Then the ladder takes a jump. The Seal sedan has the longest claimed range of any BYD on sale here, and it covers 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
At this level the buyer is no longer comparing it with a Creta. The rival becomes the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which starts around Rs. 44.95 lakh, and the question shifts from “is it worth it?” to “do I want a low, fast sedan or a tall crossover?”
Rung Four: The Sealion 7
At the top sits the Sealion 7, with a 4.5 second sprint to 100 km/h and the biggest battery in the lineup.
Here is the detail that makes it compelling. The Kia EV6 starts at Rs. 60.95 lakh, while the Sealion 7 opens roughly Rs. 13 lakh below it. When a car undercuts a rival by that much, buyers start paying attention, whatever the badge says.
The Thread Running Through All Four
Every BYD here is powered by the Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate design the company builds itself. BYD also makes its own motors, chips and software, which is how it holds quality and cost so tightly.
Ownership terms are strong too:
- Battery warranty of 8 years or up to 1.6 lakh km
- Vehicle warranty of 6 years or 1.5 lakh km
- Home charging running cost of around Rs. 1.5 per km
Charging is straightforward but worth planning. A 7 kW home charger takes roughly 10 to 12 hours for a full charge. On a 150 kW DC fast charger, the Seal and Sealion 7 can go from 10 to 80 percent in about 24 to 31 minutes.
What the Sticker Never Tells You
A showroom quote adds insurance, registration and other charges on top of the ex showroom figure, and in this price band the difference is not small. Always ask for the on road price in your own city, because that is the number you actually pay.
It also helps to step back from the brand. Looking at wider ev cars prices across India shows how much ground sits between a Rs. 7 lakh city hatchback and a Rs. 2 crore luxury sedan. BYD lives in the middle of that map, and its position makes more sense once you see the neighbours around it.
Before You Decide
Do one thing before you walk into a showroom: put your shortlist side by side. A proper ev car comparison across range, battery size, charging speed and price will tell you in ten minutes what a dozen showroom visits will not.
BYD has more coming as well. A plug in hybrid SUV, the Sealion 6 DM-i, is expected in 2026 at roughly Rs. 30 to Rs. 35 lakh, and a more affordable compact EV is planned for 2027. If you can wait, the ladder may soon get a lower rung.
If you cannot wait, now you know what each step on it is really asking you to pay for.
