My Trekking Journey in the Himalayas
A personal story of how my Himalayan trekking journey began, the lessons I learned along the way, and why I still choose guided treks for challenging adventures while enjoying solo trekking whenever possible.
Trekking has become much more than just a hobby for me. Each trail has been an educational experience for me, whether it's something I learned about the mountains, nature, or myself. I am happy that I did take the first step, as it has led me to experiences that I will never forget.
I started my trekking journey with Trek The Himalayas. My first trek with them was Valley of flowers in 2020, followed by Dayara Bugyal and Hampta Pass Trek.
Honestly, I joined organized treks mainly to learn. I wanted practical experience so that I could eventually do treks on my own. Over those treks, I learned a lot about gear, acclimatization, mountain weather, and trail safety.
Now I do some treks solo, but for more challenging ones where I don't feel 100% confident, I still prefer going with them. That's why I did Goechala and Pangarchulla with them, and hopefully one day I'll do those completely on my own.
One thing I've consistently noticed is that safety is their top priority. Having trekked with them multiple times and seen how they handle things on the ground, that's probably the biggest reason I'd recommend them for difficult Himalayan treks.
Each trek has contributed to my experience. I have learned that to prepare well is as vital as physical fitness and that respect for the mountains always takes precedence. The weather and terrain can turn quickly regardless of the level of experience you are at, there is always something to learn.
The thing I like the most about trekking is the fact that each trip is unique. It's sometimes the people you meet, sometimes it's the stunning scenery, sometimes it's the tranquility in the mountains while walking. It is those moments which bring me back again and again.
I am still learning, still exploring and I have a long list of treks in the Himalayas that I wish to make in the near future. Each trek has made me a more confident and responsible trekker and I know that this journey has just started.
