Where They Fall Short
That 3-degree floor is also the limit. A refrigerated dryer cannot protect a line that dips below freezing, because at that dew point the water is still present and ready to condense the moment temperatures fall. For any air heading outdoors on the prairies, it is not enough on its own.

A desiccant dryer removes moisture by passing air over a bed of adsorbent material that grabs water molecules directly. These units reach far lower dew points, commonly minus 40 degrees Celsius and lower, which means the air simply has no water left to freeze.
