Does Somfy Connexoon Really Work with Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit?

Separating myth from fact on Somfy Connexoon's home automation compatibility with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.

There's a lot of confusing information floating around about which smart home platforms actually work with which Somfy hub. Some of it's outdated, some of it's just wrong. Here's a straight myth-vs-fact breakdown for anyone planning home automation around motorized blinds or curtains.

Myth: "Connexoon only works with one voice assistant."

Fact: Connexoon works natively with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. You're not locked into one ecosystem. Setup for either takes a few minutes through the Alexa app or Google Home app, and both support the same core commands

opening, closing, and setting blinds to a specific position.

Myth: "If it works with Alexa, it automatically works with Apple HomeKit too."

Fact: Not the case. This is the biggest misunderstanding out there. Apple HomeKit certification belongs to Somfy's TaHoma hub not Connexoon. If home automation with Siri matters to you, Connexoon alone won't get you there natively. You'd need to either switch to TaHoma or add a third-party Homebridge plugin as a workaround.

Myth: "You need a fancy smart home hub just to get started."

Fact: Connexoon itself is the hub. There's no extra controller needed for Alexa or Google Home the box that arrives is what powers both the app control and the voice integration.

Myth: "Voice control works even without internet."

Fact: Both Alexa and Google Assistant control rely on Connexoon being connected to your home Wi-Fi. If your internet goes down, voice commands and remote access stop working, though manual/local control of the blinds themselves still functions.

Myth: "RTS and IO motors are interchangeable."

Fact: They're two separate Somfy radio protocols. Both work fine with Alexa and Google Home, but they're not cross-compatible check which protocol your existing motors use before choosing a Connexoon box.

Bottom Line for Home Automation Planning

  • Alexa: Works natively, no extra hub.
  • Google Home: Works natively, no extra hub.
  • Apple HomeKit: Needs TaHoma, or a community bridge not native to Connexoon.

Knowing this upfront saves a return trip to the store, or worse, a hub swap after your blinds are already installed.
