Ayurvedic Treatment for Psoriasis (Ekakushtha / Kitibha)
Herbal formulations used include Arogyavardhini Vati, Khadirarishta, Manjistha, Neem, Guduchi, and Kaisora Guggulu.
Understanding the Condition
Psoriasis is not just a skin condition — it is a full-body inflammatory disease that affects your skin, joints, self-confidence, and quality of life. Modern medicine offers management but no permanent cure. At Aastha Ayurveda, we have achieved remarkable, lasting results with psoriasis patients using authentic Ayurvedic detoxification, herbal medicines, and personalised dietary therapy. Many of our patients — including those with severe plaque psoriasis — have achieved clear or near-clear skin and long-term remission.
The Ayurvedic Perspective
Ayurveda classifies psoriasis under the category of Kushtha (skin disorders) — specifically Ekakushtha (generalised) and Kitibha (thick, rough patches). It results from a deep imbalance of Vata and Kapha doshas, combined with Pitta aggravation, contaminating the Rasa, Rakta (blood), Mamsa (muscle), and Lasika (lymph) tissues. The root cause is accumulation of Ama (toxins) from poor digestion and an overloaded liver. Stress, incompatible food combinations, alcohol, and suppression of natural urges all trigger and worsen psoriasis.
Common Symptoms
• Thick, red, raised patches covered with silvery scales
• Intense itching, burning, or soreness around the patches
• Dry skin that may crack and bleed
• Nail changes — pitting, thickening, or separation
• Scalp psoriasis — flaking often mistaken for severe dandruff
• Joint swelling and stiffness (psoriatic arthritis)
• Skin flare-ups triggered by stress, infections, or weather change
• Emotional distress, anxiety, and social withdrawal
Our Treatment Approach at Aastha Ayurveda
Psoriasis treatment at Aastha Ayurveda is a structured programme typically spanning 3–6 weeks of intensive Panchkarma, followed by oral herbal medications for 3–6 months. The Panchkarma phase deeply cleanses the blood, liver, and lymphatic system. Herbal formulations used include Arogyavardhini Vati, Khadirarishta, Manjistha, Neem, Guduchi, and Kaisora Guggulu. We also work closely with patients on dietary correction, as food plays a central role in psoriasis management in Ayurveda.
Panchkarma Therapies Used
• Virechana (therapeutic purgation) — the cornerstone of psoriasis treatment, deeply cleansing Pitta and blood
• Vamana (therapeutic emesis) in selected cases to clear Kapha and accumulated skin toxins
• Rakta Mokshana (blood purification therapy) for severe, chronic psoriasis
• Takradhara (medicated buttermilk flow) to soothe inflamed skin and cool Pitta
• Lepa (medicated herbal paste application) on affected areas with Neem, Manjistha, and Turmeric
Diet & Lifestyle Guidance
• Favour: bitter gourd, neem leaves, turmeric, moong dal, amla, pomegranate, bottle gourd
• Strictly avoid: dairy products, red meat, sour foods, fermented foods, alcohol, spicy foods
• Avoid incompatible food combinations — especially fish with dairy or sour foods with milk
• Drink Neem or Guduchi (Giloy) herbal water daily
• Practice stress management — yoga, meditation, and deep breathing are essential
• Protect skin from harsh soaps; use Neem or Aloe-based products only
