Rajasthan is the largest state in India; it is known as the land of the Maharaja, for the real elegance of its many forts, its history, art, and culture.
1) Jaipur: the pink city of Rajasthan, so named for its large use of pink sandstone used for the construction of houses, is famous for its refined craftsmanship that includes jewelry, precious and semi-precious stones, and textiles. But besides this, you can see the Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar, and the City Palace.
2) Jaisalmer: the most exotic city of "one thousand and one nights", as well as the westernmost town of Rajasthan near the border with
Pakistan, is located in the heart of the Thar desert. Called the golden city, it was once an important city along the trade route. To see the fort of Jaisalmer with its temples and the ancient Haveli, in particular the Patwon-Ji-Ki Haveli, the Lake Gadi Saga, and why not admire the sunset on the dunes of the Thar desert on camel back.
3) Bikaner: a well-known fortified city with its beautiful Junagarh Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful fortresses in the world. Not too far from here, if you dare, go visit the Karni Mata Temple, better known as the temple of rats.
4) Udaipur: the white city is the most romantic of Rajasthan, thanks to the lakes, the beautiful gardens, and the marble palaces. The impressive City Palace is still the residence of the Maharaja, the Sahelion Ki Bari, and a boat trip to reach the Jag Mandir are the things to do in Udaipur.
5) Jodhpur: it is located south of Jaisalmer; Jodhpur, thanks to the ancient houses of the blue Brahmin, is called the "blue city" that you can see from the beautiful Mehrangarh fort. Here you can also visit the bazaar, one of the most beautiful and chaotic places I've seen in India.
6) Ranakpur: one of the most beautiful temples I visited during this trip I saw it in Ranakpur! Jainist temple masterpiece of marble inlays! To be seen absolutely!
7) Pushkar: one of the sacred cities houses the only temple dedicated to the Brahma God of all India; very important here is the sacred lake where there are 52 ghats for sacred abstractions. Here, it is also thought that the water around the ghats has special powers.
8) Mandawa: one of the less touristic cities I saw in Rajasthan, famous for its ancient Haweli, some very well preserved.
9) Chittorgarh: famous is the homonymous fort located on a hill and extending for 700 acres witness of one of the most glorious periods of Rajasthan's history of chivalry. Here also, the courage of the "Widows of Chittorgarh" that made the sati, the suicide by immolation, is remembered.
10) Amer: This city is located about 11 km from Jaipur and is mainly visited to see the impressive Amber fort. Nearby, you can also visit the Jagat Shiromani Temple and the Jaigarh fort.
