Orbi Firmware Update Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It Fast

okay first off — yeah, i know the title says “fix it fastt” (yes, with two t’s). it was a typo. i left it. we’re rolling with it.

so. you tried to update your orbi firmware and it just… didn’t? maybe the app said it was updating and then nothing happened. maybe it froze halfway through. maybe it says “you’re already up to date” but you know you’re not. netgear does this weird thing sometimes where it half-updates, half-forgets it updated. whatever. we’ll walk through all the dumb little tricks that somehow fix it.

Step one: Check Your Internet.
yeah yeah, i know, obvious. but seriously. orbi can’t check for orbi update satellite firmware if your internet connection is being weird. sometimes your phone is on a different network than your router (like the guest network or 5G or whatever). make sure you’re actually connected to the main orbi wifi. open a webpage, see if it loads fast. if it’s dragging, reboot your modem too. sometimes that’s literally it.

• use ethernet instead of Wi-Fi when you’re uploading the Orbi update satellite firmware manually. less chance of dropping mid-upload.
• unplug satellites before updating the main router, then plug them back in after. no clue why, but it helps sometimes.
